Product FAQs
Oxy Active PLUS is our most concentrated variant. Formulated to tackle tougher than usual stains, when you need that extra helping hand.
Oxy Active is formulated to tackle everyday stain.
This product does not contain any milk or honey. The fragrance and colour of the product are purely synthetic. That’s a close match to me and you.
This is an ideal product to use around children and animals. Like with all cleaning products, we do however recommend you remove children and pets from the area before cleaning and allow the area to completely dry before reintroducing.
All cleaning products contain chemicals - both natural and synthetic - that's what gives them the ability to clean. So whilst we never compromise on cleaning performance, we do our best avoid the use of harmful chemicals in the process.
We do not procure or use crude palm oil or palm kernel oil in any of our Astonish cleaning products, and have no plans to use either of these materials in the future.
However, many soaps and active ingredients in detergents (also known as surfactants) are derived from palm oil and palm kernel oil, and we do use some of these derivatives in our Astonish cleaning products. They are often used interchangeably with other plant derived materials (based on rapeseed or coconut oils) or synthetic materials (as defined above).
Crude palm oil and palm kernel oil are used in the production and supply of vegetable soap prills that we use in the manufacture of certain products. Our vegetable soap is made from blends of palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil.
Products which contain vegetable soap (and therefore are palm oil based) are as follows:
Astonish Premium Edition Stain Remover Bar; Astonish Original Oven & Cookware Cleaner; Astonish Specialist Oven & Grill Cleaner; Astonish Specialist Dish & Pan Cleaner; Astonish Specialist Stainless Steel Cleaner; Astonish Specialist Hob Cleaner.
In order to reduce the impact on rainforests and land for food crops, all of the soap we use is manufactured using palm oil from a RSPO certified plantation. This is from a ‘book and claim’ system as defined by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). For further information see www.rspo.org.
Palm oil can also be the source for oleic acid, which is widely used as the basis for soaps in a number of cleaning products. We do not currently use oleic acid in our cleaning products.

The only products we do not recommend for use with septic tanks are our Toilet Bowl Tabs: Power Clean Toilet Bowl Tabs (Product ref: C2184); Toilet Bowl Fizz & Fresh Tabs Lemon Splash (Product ref: C2145); Toilet Bowl Fizz & Fresh Tabs Pink Peony Fresh (Product ref: C2150); Toilet Bowl Fizz & Fresh Tabs Eucalyptus Fresh (Product ref: C2155).
In general, all of our other products are suitable for use with a septic tank although excessive use of cleaning products may damage the bacterial levels in a septic tank, which could inhibit the tanks effectiveness. Always follow the on-pack instructions when cleaning and avoid discharging large quantities of cleaning products to drain at any one time.
Particular care should be taken with products that contain chlorine-based bleach (due to bacterial kill) or phosphates (which can accumulate).
The following Astonish products contain a chlorine-based bleach:
Cream Cleaner with Bleach (Product ref: C2380)Specialist Cream Cleaner with Bleach [Formerly Premium Edition Cream Cleaner with Bleach] (Product ref: C8820)Multi-Purpose Cleaner with Bleach (Product ref: C1945)Specialist Extra Strength Multi-Purpose with Bleach [Formerly Premium Edition Multi-Purpose with Bleach] (Product ref: C6780)Mould & Mildew Blaster (Product ref: C9955)Specialist Extra Strength Mold & Mildew Stain Blaster [Formerly Premium Edition Mold & Mildew Stain Blaster] (Product ref: C1120)
All of the above products are for surface care and are designed to be used in small quantities. Routine use should not affect septic tank operation and quantities discharged to drain should be minimal.
Astonish have voluntarily removed inorganic phosphates from our laundry and surface care products due to concerns over their environmental impact – all of these products are free from inorganic phosphates.
